InterSpect© inspection job assignments are wirelessly transmitted to RIM© handheld computers during the night. Inspectors sign into the RIM© terminals with a username and password.

Inspectors review work assignment and are permitted to rearrange the inspection order to coincide with changes  which may occur as a result of an inspection requirement.
Inspectors
drive directly to the site of their first inspection from their home.
Inspectors select first inspection from RIM© terminal and proceed to perform inspection. The inspection results, along with inspector's comments, are entered directly into RIM© handheld computer and edited for accuracy and consistency by InterSpect©.   More

When
inspection is complete the results are transmitted wirelessly to City of Houston computer system or automatically stored for forwarding (store/forward) in the handheld computer when the wireless link is insufficient to support communication with City of Houston computer.

If an inspection results in failure to comply with code, the City of Houston computer system automatically sends an email notice to the contractor, posts failure to an automatic voice response system permitting the contractor to retrieve status of inspections, and posts inspection results to the City's web site.

InterSpect© enables the City of Houston's Code Enforcement system to respond appropriately and quickly. Inspection results are available for contractor review in twenty four hours, or less. Inspection results are placed on the Code Enforcement Department’s web site making them available to each contractor’s main office. InterSpect© is designed to send an automatic email to the contractor with inspection results. When inspections are completed they do not require additional documentation or data entry. Inspector simply proceeds to next inspection location appearing on the InterSpect© RIM© terminal screen.

Work is checked against contractor blueprints.

After last inspection of the day, inspector drives directly home from inspection site. Managers have the ability to adjust inspection routes and schedule inspections “on the fly” via the Internet using InterSpect©. Adjustments are sent in real time to the RIM© handheld computer of effected inspectors.      More
